Alberic
Oullette, Sr. purchaced the land now known as Sandy
Point Resort between 1928 and 1932 from Mr. Carl
Helen. At
the time of his puchase, the property only consisted
of a snack bar, a few cottages and two sandy beaches. With
the help of his employees, Alberic built up the resort
to include motel rooms and several new cottages bringing
the total number of units up to 77.
Eventually, Alberic's son, Bric Ouellette, took
over the resort and increased it's size even further
to include a larger restaurant with the Star-Lite
Lounge, a game room, and several larger cottages. The
lounge opened on June 23, 1965.
Guests were invited to attend the grand opening
where they could receive two free cocktails of
their choice as well as a charcoal broiled sirloin
steak or lobster dinner for $2.45. At one point guests also had their choice of
rooms in three different motels known as the Scenic, the Deluxe, and the "A" Motel. Prices
were as low as $8.00 a day. Now, there are three levels of motels known
as the Scenic, the Hillside, and the Beach ranging from $100-$150 per night.
A lot has changed over the years!
